FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

What is psychodynamic therapy?

Psychodynamic therapy focuses on understanding unconscious, or unaware, processes that may present in one's behavior. Therapy focuses on creating greater self-awareness and understanding of the influence of the past on current behavior. Through psychodynamic therapy, individuals gain deeper insight that can help with growth, healing, and improvement in overall clinical presentation.

What is supportive therapy?

Supportive therapy primarily focuses on active listening while providing emotional support, encouragement, and validation, particularly when individuals experience emotional or psychological challenges. The goal is for the mental health provider to create a safe, nonjudgmental and welcoming enviroment to allow individuals discuss their feelings and concerns. Supportive therapy allows individuals to build greater self-esteem and confidence.

What is cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT)?

Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) aims to identify and change negative thoughts and behaviors that influence an individual's challenges. Understanding how feelings, thoughts, and behaviors are interconnected may help individuals improve their mental health by focusing on how to change one or more of these elements.

What is mindfulness therapy?

Mindfulness therapy increases one's awareness of thoughts, feelings, emotions, surroundings and situations that may contribute to destructive or automatic responses or habits. Increased awareness helps avoid these responses and help navigate the world with less distress and a greater sense of agency.

Do you offer virtual and/or in-person mental health care?

At this time, I only offer virtual mental health care via a HIPAA-compliant and secure video conferencing platform to individuals who live in Massachusetts.

What are your fees?

Fees vary by appointment and service type. Please refer to the Services page for the most up-to-date information.

Do you accept insurance?

I am an "out-of-network" provider for all insurances, which means I do not accept any insurance types, and fees are due when services are rendered. However, I can provider an itemized receipt, or a "superbill," that you may submit to your insurance company for potential reimbursement. Please call your insurance company prior to engaging in treatment to discuss potential out-of-network benefits and potential reimbursement.

What types of payment do you accept?

I accept all major credit cards and debit cards.

Do you prescribe controlled substances?

I do not prescribe medications considered to be controlled substances, which include benzodiazepines (Xanax, Ativan, Klonopin) and stimulants (Adderall, Ritalin, Vyvanse).

What are your typical hours?

I currently meet with patients on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays between 7:00am to 5:00pm EST.

Do you provide a free initial consultation?

I understand the emotional, psychological, and financial investment in engaging in mental health treatment. As such, I offer a free initial telephone consultation to see if we might be a good fit. During the consultation, I will discuss my clinical practice philosophy and provide a roadmap of your treatment moving forward. More importantly, we will discuss your treatment goals and address any questions or concerns you might have.

Please complete the New Patient Consultation Form, and I will reach out to you as soon as I can.

Of note, this consultation form is not intended to be used as an intervention for a crisis that requires immediate attention. If you experience a medical or psychiatric emergency that requires immediate response, please call 911 or go to the nearest emergency department.

Do you treat all disorders and conditions?

Given that Gonzalez Psychiatry currently only provides video telehealth services, there are certain mental health challenges and disorders (substance use disorders, eating disorders, certain bipolar and psychotic disorders) that would be more effectively and responsibly managed by in-person visits, a more robust team of mental health providers, or other types of interventions. However, if you are interested in establishing mental health treatment with Dr. Daniel Gonzalez, please complete the New Patient Consultation Form. A free telephone consultation could be scheduled to further discuss your unique behavioral health questions and concerns.

Of note, this consultation form is not intended to be used as an intervention for a crisis that requires immediate attention. If you experience a medical or psychiatric emergency that requires immediate response, please call 911 or go to the nearest emergency department.
